One of the cars on the PATH system is named for our hometown.
The metal placard reads: Originally a Crown Grant in 1668, Kearny became a Township in 1867 and an incorporated Town in 1899, after 200 historic years. Its landmarks include Schuyler Mansion, site of a copper mine and the nation's first steam engine; the Second River Battlefield; and Civil War General Phil Kearny's castle. Adjacent to two rivers, railroads, highways, docks, and airways, industrial-residential Kearny is a crossroad of industry with pleasant suburban living for its residents. This car is named in honor of Kearny, one of more than 300 communities whose residents travel on the Port Authority Trans-Hudson Interstate rail transit system. |
